Pillow Family Supports Medical Students Through Scholarship Fund

Dr. David and Sunny Pillow
Reflecting on the Pillow Family Medical Student Scholarship Fund, Dr. David J. Pillow, Jr. said, "Helping medical students is something my family has always cared about. My father and I were grateful for the assistance we received in pursuing our medical educations. The scholarship fund is a way of leaving something meaningful behind and investing in future generations of Texas physicians."
Created in 2008 by gifts from Dr. Pillow's father, Dr. David J. Pillow, Sr., his mother Annabel and himself, the fund provides scholarships for medical students at UT Southwestern. An additional gift of $500,000, in the form of a charitable gift annuity, was made by Dr. Pillow, Jr. and his wife Sunny. It will provide them an income for their lives, and then the proceeds will be added to the Pillow Family Scholarship Fund. "After the passing of my parents, we felt this latest gift will continue to honor our family's legacy by providing many more scholarships to deserving medical students at UT Southwestern."
Dr. Pillow, Sr. served on the faculty from 1972 to 1978 before establishing a private practice in North Richland Hills. Dr. Pillow, Jr. graduated with honors from UT Southwestern in 1972 and is now a staff physician in the emergency department at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital.
The Pillow Family Medical Student Scholarship Fund is particularly meaningful because of the annual scholarship luncheon where donors and scholarship recipients meet. "During his life my father helped many medical students. This scholarship fund is a source of pride for our family to continue that legacy."
